The stage had been waiting for you; at last
You spread your soul's wings, and your voice took flight.
Your eyes, turned skywards, sparkled like the stars.
That's where you belong: worshipped, in the light.

That was magical, was all I could say,
Breathless, afterwards, to your polite thanks,
Your distant smile, and your turning away
To all your other, saner, fawning fans.

I don't know why I once thought I was fit
To touch your hand; our every moment
Must be everything you want to forget;
My dreams are your dim memories of torment.

It hurts, but if you need that to heal, then
Turn away, forget my love with your pain.

John, I'll be honest with you. You seem to fall in love too easily with women who are destined to hurt you. With that out of the way, I appreciate the honesty in this poem. It's simple, beautiful, and reflecting a pain only a true artist can articulate. Well done as art, just makes me worry about you.
I like it :hug: its very expressive and you are opening up to us. I am sorry that you got hurt, but you expressed it very beautifully. Saddness is beautiful to those how have went through it, I guess. :star::glomp:

It seems more painful to me that you assume you are a painful memory to her. She may or may not have felt anything near what you do but she -could- think of you fondly. I do!

Artistic perfection, though, as is your usual. You have such talent. Good job, John!

"Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia." (Charles Schultz)
If love didn't hurt then we wouldn't have the appreciation for it. Love is a risk, a chance. Well written.
